On tuesday night i took a little trip up to philadelphia to see one of my friends' friends perform, hang out in the city, ya know do my little head nod and handshake thing. Down at the raven lounge, a spot i'd highly recommend, we watched some cool acts dance on the line between golden era hip hop and the 21st century and beyond. super cool. I ended up talking to a super cutie who just exuded natural creativity (and beauty). We talked about our creative endeavours and she was a graphic designer, fashionista, and she was into music. My jaw dropped naturally and i ran into a small dilemna... should i tell her about fly.paper?
of fucking course i should have told her about fly.paper. duh. but i didn't... why? because for starters i'm out of practice. Living in the suburbs i just have not been telling anyone about fly.paper it's hard to run into open and creative people out here far away from any type of culture.
(aside) on a bike ride in the city, i chose to ride my fixed gear bike, which i love. you know i had my tight boys (super skinny jeans) on. I was there with my mom for a leisurely ride, doing the tour de port bike ride but i rode into my dad and his g/f. after seeing me navigate traffic so leisurely she commented on how urban i was. not in that i'm so hood and black but urban, in the way that people who live in the city know how to cross the street, not look like tourists and generally find solace in the urban environment (end)
So back in philly, i was busy being urban and urbane and naturally migrating toward the other conversationalists in the room talking about creativity and business and life and the interstices of all 3. a perfect segue way to introducting my new found friends to fly.paper. but i didn't, not as thoroughly as i could have.
i say all of this to ask every one of you, have you been telling people about fly.paper? have you met anyone cool, interesting, creative, hustle oriented that deserves to know about this cool collection of kids from across the globe getting together to make beautiful music together?
remember, fly.paper is for musicians and artists and writers and thinkers not just for people to write sex poems and whine about their lives. we are a positive place to share prospective preponderances pertaining the beauty of life as we see and describe it. an some of that shit is tragic and sad but not nearly all of it. or any of it if you so choose.
i challenge everyone to invite atleast one person to join our community, when they sign up greet them and introduce them engage them. This is how we are going to grow and add new and interesting perspective to our collective!
I am going to start making tie dye fly.paper shirts as well as business cards you can purchase for the LOW to make it easier to tell people about fly.paper and what it is you do here. and we are taking suggestions, i am going to start a discussion about the fly.paper business card and ways we can reach out to more creative visionaries.
